HY-FOLIC® is already present in its biologically active form; it does not require the four-step metabolic conversion pathway necessary for standard folic acid. This results in a peak plasma concentration approximately twice that of folic acid. Furthermore, because it bypasses this conversion process entirely, HY-FOLIC® does not contribute to the formation or accumulation of unmetabolized folic acid (UMFA), a compound associated with adverse health effects. Uniquely, HY-FOLIC is also the only folate form crossing the blood-brain barrier.
